The Opposition Leader in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo has rejected the appointment of the Electoral Commissioner of the Eastern Region, Alex Pat Labib Saffa, cites breach of constitutional provisions.
The Opposition Leader reportedly walks out in the middle of the interview process, in which members of parliament were assessing the credentials of presidential nominees.
According Hon. Kargbo, it is unconstitutional for an individual who has served as a public servant to hold a position of Electoral Commissioner, as such he can not be a party to such appointment.
“From my own side, I willl not be part of anything that will go against the grunorm of our state, which is our constitution.” He Stated.
In a recent press release, State House confirms the Presidential appointment of Alex Pat Labib Saffa as Electoral Commission of the Eastern Region.
As constitution mandates, the parliament of Sierra Leone has the authority to approve high-ranking presidential appointments raging from ministerial positions to commissioners.
