In a press statement, the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) announced that the Kenema District Council chairman bye election has been put on hold while the matter is still pending in court.
Following the death of the former Kenema District Council Chairman, Mr. Mohamed Amadu Sesay, who died on Tuesday, 6th August 2024, at the Kenema Government Hospital, there was a legal dispute as to whether the Deputy District Council Chairman is eligible to assume the office of the District Chairman or a bye-election be conducted to fill the vacancy.
However, ECSL made a declaration through a press statement dated September 3rd, 2024 for the conduction of the Kenema District Council Chairman bye-election in accordance with the law. The nomination day that was to be held from Wednesday, 2nd October, to Thursday, 3rd October, and subsequently the bye election day scheduled for Saturday, 16th November.
