His Excellency, Julius Maada Bio, has appointed Ing. Edmond Nonie as Deputy Minister (1) and Dr. Abdul Rahim Jalloh as Deputy Minister (2) of the Ministry of Energy.

This appointment came following the ongoing electricity crisis in the country, as most residents complain of shortage in electricity supply affecting daily lives and livelihoods.

In a recent interview, the Chairman of the Energy Governance Coordination Group (EGCG), Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, tendered an apology to the public in regards to the ongoing electricity crisis, underscoring the urgent need for a revamp of the country’s energy sector to improve sustainable electricity supply.

Moreover, the current state of electricity supply poses a serious risk to the safety of residents in the country. This follows the National Disaster Management Agency confirming that 70% of the thirty-eight fire incidents reported in the country so far are due to bad electricity.
