Marcellus Williams is set to be executed today, September 24 by the Missouri State Supreme Court.
According to the reports, Marcellus Williams was denied clemency by the governor of the state of Missouri, Michael L. Parson, and he is set to be executed today, September 24, by lethal injection.
Marcellus Williams was convicted and sentenced to death in August 2001 for the murder of Felicia Gayle, a former news reporter who was found stabbed to death in her house in 1998. Mr. Williams had since then pleaded not guilty for the charge of the murder of the former reporter.
Whilst on death row, it was noted by anti-death penalty activists that the DNA found at the scene did not match that of Williams’s.
The victim’s family purportedly said that they do not want to see the death penalty to be carried out because no forensic evidence has linked Mr. Williams to the death of Gayle.
Mr. Williams was reportedly convicted primarily on two witness-testimonies who received money rewards for their testimonies.
Hence, Governor Parson has denied every single clemency that has been brought to his desk with regards to the alleged crime since 2018.
Numerous petitions are purportedly being filed to stop Marcellus Williams’ execution from taking place today, September 24.
