DR Congo War: More than 100 women raped and burned to death in a prison break.

According to reports, the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel broke into Munzenze prison on Monday, 3rd. February, and committed series of atrocities.

During the prison break , over 100 female prisoners were reportedly raped and burned alive in the city of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Based on statistics, between 165 and 167 female prisoners were assaulted, and most of them were later killed by the male inmates. 

The United Nations has revealed that at least 2,900 deaths have been recorded in the DR Congo War.

Even though the M23 rebels recently announced a ceasefire, they have continued to unleash more atrocities by capturing new towns.

Amidst the conflict, Congo continues to face a series of challenges like poor access to water and other basic amenities of life. 

Reports also state that there is currently an outbreak of cholera due to poor living conditions attributed to the impact of the conflict.

Moreover, Malawi has reportedly threatened to withdraw its peacekeeping forces following the killing of three of their soldiers in Goma.
