Justin Trudeau resigns as Canadaโs Prime Minister.
According to reports , Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has resigned from office owing to “internal battles” within his party.
Justin Pierre James Trudeau became Canada’s 23rd prime minister in 2015, and he has held the position for nine years.
According to sources, in addition to resigning as Prime Minister of Canada, he has also stepped down as Leader of Canada’s Liberal Party.
He states that he would stay on in office until his Liberal Party selects a next leader through a robust nationwide competitive process. He also stated that Canadaโs parliament will be prorogued or suspended until 24 March.
The resignation of Trudeau caught the eye of U.S. President-elect Donald J. Trump, who linked the decision to the mounting pressure from Canadaโs tariffs.
Trump reiterated his goal of making โCanada the 51st state of the United Statesโ as a way to alleviate tariff tensions, emphasizing that this move would guarantee Canadaโs safety from the looming presence of Russian and Chinese vessels in its waters. He expressed these thoughts on social media in response to Trudeau’s departure.
